Stanford Univ. Minority Medical Alliance

This past weekend was amazing inspirational, a life changing moment, brought hope into my life and showed me what the path i should pursue in life.

This saturday i went to the Stanford University Minority Medical Alliance (SUMMA), which is a premed conference. I recently went to one in davis but i didnt get much information out of it, so i wasnt expecting much from the conference.

Before i start talking about the conference i want to say that palo alto and the stanford campus is a beatiful place!!!! Stanford blew me away, maybe because im attracted by spanish arhitecture or maybe it was the church, i dont know what it was but i was impressed by the campus.

The conference started at 8 30 but advised to get there at 7 15 to beat the rush. So i picked up my friend from Chicanos in Health Education and his two friends and we were on our way around 6 20am i thought it took more than an hour to get there, i was wrong it took 40 minutes to arrive, we were there early, but i wasnt complaining we got free breakfast!!!

After breakfast the real conference started, and different minority doctors were introducing themselves and advising us to help close the gap between health disparities in minorities. The highlight of the conference was hearing 3 speeches from the 3 med students and their road to getting accepted to med school. Their stories were so inpirational, but the one that impacted me the most was when one of the med students at age 5 lived in south central LA and as she was walking back with her mom from a school event a thug stopped her and demanded her mom for money, but the mom couldnt speak english so the 5 year old responded that her mom didnt have any money, her mom even showed him her purse, then from frustration he shot the mom in the leg. Thats how her motivation to become started. The road was not easy for her. She ended up going to UCLA but while attending there she failed calculus and struggled in OChem, but her passion was to help in the community she accomplished this by doing health awareness in the community and even going to Mexico and teaching the community about diabetes. After college she was part of a community health center and she received her M.S. from Cal State LA, she applied for medical school and now she's in Stanford. This is one of 3 stories that i made an impact. It was so inspirational it showed me that i shouldnt rush, i should take my time enjoy what i like to do best, which is get an MPH work in the community and then apply for medschool. The workshops that i attended where also filled with a lot of information i was not aware of. Basically the whole conference was awesome!!!!

So i got the widget for mac on my dashboard, this is so cool, im writing on my dasboard!!

This past couple of weeks i have been going to Total Athletic Conditioning, its so intense, but so worth it. I love the feeling after a hard workout, my own natural high, and the pain that it comes with it during and after the workout. Hopefully if im consistent ill be able to dominate the bleachers and zoom right past them, instead of crawling to the top. Even though TAC will not give me the abs, i will still loose the weight that i accumulated over the past 3 years. I need to loose 10 lbs for my target weight, i think its possible i must go to TAC everyweek in order to do it.
Oh yeah one more thing no more alcohol for awhile, i dont want to be a stereotypical alcoholic mexican hahaha, i looked over josh's photo and i had a beer in most pictures, thats not good. Maybe ill try to get used to wine, i dont know a mexican that drinks and enjoys it, hahaha i can be the first, well im its time for a nap and then TAC ...

Being 21

This past week has been crazy for me and i guess ill admit i was kind of an alcoholic this week, i did things that i would never thought i would ever do. Recap of my week

Monday- Birthday Dinner with the best people in the world, alex and amy took me out to joshyua's (first time going there!) and had some good sushi, but the highlight of the dinner was taking sake bombs with alex, his first time taking them, and by the end of the night i had 2 sake bombs and got alex and me super buzzed! Then we ended up at blakes because i had a craving for buffalo wings lol, it was fun night my first and last time drinking on a monday

FRIENDS!!!!

Wednesday- Alex, amy, james, cheriz, jeff, and thuyet took me out to thallasus, one of the best bars in berkeley that i've been to, and we all had drinks!! I tried an irish car bomb, and finished cheriz's too, i ended it with a liquid cocaine, minute later i was drunk.i was telling everyone how much i loved them. We all got hungry so we ended up in fat slice and ate some good pizza, again we ended the night by going to blakes and drinking some beers, i had so much fun just hanging out and not worrying about school, i enjoyed every minute of it, thanks to all who came out.

Friday- Gonzo, Tran, and i had a pre-party at my place and had a couple of mixed drinks, couple of margaritas and a South Central(gonzo made it up its a secret recipe) but it taste like chocolate cake. Then off we went to my friend lance's party and i wasnt buzzed yet so i had some more drinks, i think i had jungle juice not sure but it tasted like kool-aid and rum. After 2 cups i felt it and i started hugging friends that i have not seen for months, and i even started Dancing in the dance floor, but luckily didnt make a move to any girl hahahaha i wasnt that drunk, i probably would have but the party got broken up by cops pretty early so we all went home. I got home and i got even more intoxicated because i felt the ceiling spinning so i knocked out in my futon, but luckily no hang-over.

Saturday- Gonzo, thuyet, and i went to the movies and saw my bloody valentine in 3d, the movie was good because it was in 3d, but wouldnt recommend it to the girls it had all the elements for a guy movie haha blood, gore, violence, guns, and some nudity. I was a different experience but i liked it, then right after the movie we went to Josh's for his housewarming party, and the first thing we do when we get there is we all take shots! Usually im against flavored drinks especially vodka but strawberry vodka tasted really good, and had couple of those. I pretty much took a shot as people came in, hahaha, so as you can tell i became really buzzed/drunk, but i remember and i met a lot of people. I ended up leaving back to my place at 5am!!!! crazy and i tried to watch the federer vs. nadal final but i failed i was too tired.

This whole week was crazy, i realized every time i get buzzed i always end up sleeping in my futon. This week was a lot of fun but now i need to catch up with school, no more fun/alcohol for awhile, i think my liver needs a break.
